Sugar-free Easter feast? You can do it!

Easter – whatever the holiday means to you, one thing’s for certain – it’s a favourite for anyone with a sweet tooth. Indeed, Easter simply wouldn’t be Easter without all that chocolate and sugar, right? Or would it?

If you’re trying to avoid refined sugar this time round, we’re here to tell you that you can create and enjoy a sugar-free feast this month for yourself or your clients, even on Easter weekend! Let us show you how...

Catering ideas and tips for a sugar-free feast

1. Brunch, brunch and more brunch

Ditch the traditional French toast and waffles and go for carb-clever toast, vegetable quiches or frittatas, oatmeal, health muffins and fresh fruits. Delicious, healthy, and no one will even notice the lack of sugar.

2. Don’t forget the snacks

Nibbles are often the hardest menu item to get right when going sugar-free but they are also essential to social gatherings like Easter lunches and teas. Go for roasted nuts, chicken bites, stuffed mushrooms, salsa, crackers, and fresh berries.

3. Try chocolate of a different nature

Swop out dairy milk chocolate for low-carb, no sugar alternatives – there are more and more of these options available in-store and they look just like their chocolaty counterparts. Think chocolate-style avocado mousse, almond butter cups, cacao crunch balls, and peanut butter eggs.

4. Go big on the mains

The sugars you want to avoid are most likely in your desserts and sweets. So, place a lot of focus on your main meal and make it memorable, indulgent and satisfying. Rack of lamb with cauli-mash, oven-roasted asparagus, a selection of veggie dishes, and interesting salads will give you more than one satisfying mouthful.

5. Having said that, don’t skip dessert

Sugar-free doesn’t have to be indulgence-free. Easter feasts call for pudding and there’s no need to feel deprived because you’re not having a bunch of store-bought chocolate. Try this yummy berry delight - whip 500g blueberries and blackberries with 250g mascarpone, 2 tablespoons sour cream, 2 tablespoons double cream, 1 large egg, 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon rice malt syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla powder, and a pinch of salt. Place under a preheated grill for 10 minutes until the top is caramelised and serve. Simply (sugar-free) stunning.
